Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan
60 minutes
September 13, 2004 – September 15, 2012
Cesar Millan’s work with troublesome dogs was showcased in the reality television programme Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan. The television programme aired for nine seasons, from September 13, 2004, to September 15, 2012.
The problem canines of the guests on Cesar Millan’s episodes of Dog Whisperer were presented via documentary-style footage and an interview with the owners. In keeping with the idea that dogs are pack animals, Millan gave advice on how the owners may become their pet’s “pack leader.” In order for dogs to be healthy and balanced, he employed behaviour modification techniques and the principle that these things must come “in that order”: exercise, discipline, and affection.
The first half-hour episodes of the series aired on the National Geographic Channel on September 13, 2004. It was lengthened to one hour in 2005, then switched to prime time. The seventh season of the show was televised in more than 80 different countries in 2011.The programme, which was created by Sheila Emery and Kay Sumner in collaboration with MPH Entertainment, Inc., had an estimated 11 million American viewers per week. Professionals from the entertainment sector have made several appearances on the show, including Virginia Madsen and Jada Pinkett Smith.
